The Jaguar Ecological Reserve is currently a 1200-hectare federally registered reserve (R.P.P.N. – Reserva Particular de Patrimonio Natural). The Reserve was created in 1999 with the help of the non-profit
Focus Conservation Fund. The Jaguar Reserve is owned by a local Pantaneiro family who has pledged to preserve it. Profits from the Reserve’s lodge are re-invested to purchase more land for the Reserve. Jaguar Lodge is for those willing to spend time in nature viewing wildlife in its natural habitat. The accommodations are rustic , however The Jaguar Ecological Reserve offers a unique glimpse into the local Pantaneiro culture.

The Reserve employs local Pantaneiros, whose knowledge of the region will enhance your visit. By visiting the Reserve you will directly contribute to a community-based conservation project aimed at protecting the biodiversity and culture of one of the largest wetlands in the world. It is a comfortable lodge in a remote yet accessible setting surrounded by some of the Pantanal’s finest wildlife habitat. The Jaguar Lodge has expanded and improved the lodge significantly in the past four years offering 9 guest rooms (total of 18 single beds). Eight guest rooms have air conditioning. Each room is fully furnished and has a private bath, mosquito nets, fan, and porch with hammocks. The Lodge uses a generator and solar panels for electricity. Hot water is available daily. Guests enjoy family-style dining in a newly remodeled dining room. Breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as afternoon tea are included.
