Nature is calling you – It’s time to leave for Lencois Maranhenses and the Delta of Parnaiba
Lencois Maranhenses and delta of parnaiba , both the locations are surrounded by white sands, crystal clear ponds, river islands and salt water beaches. Surrounded by lush green nature it is a great place to visit between June and September, the place becomes filled with ponds of crystal-clear waters, with colors varying between blue and emerald green.
It is the only open sea delta in the Americas. With it, there are only two other in the world the Nile River’s, in Egypt, and the Mekong River’s, in Vietnam. It has over 70 islands, many of them accessible, in about 2,700 km² of area.Both the destination which are in our list is so dissimilar, so you can enjoy two world at a time, and to keep this sorted we have created an itinerary for you, check it out:
Day 1:
The tour starts with the Lencois Maranhenses located 250 km from Sao Luis the capital of Maranhao. From there, you can pre book an organized tours which depart towards the main points of interest of the destination, all carried out in jeeps or trucks with 4 x 4 traction, the only way to conquer the dunes, creeks and obstacles of the routes which lead to the ponds.
On the first day, you will visit Lagoa Bonita. The tour begins with the Preguicas river, which separates Barreirinhas from the Lencois Maranhenses National Park, where most of the attractions of the place are located. There you can observe the lovely landscape of this river which is so full of life, as you prepare for the discovery of a magical place.
After crossing the river, tour moves forward through sand roads and streams and parks next to the pond. After a short walk, you cam witness the spot clearly, and once you see the besuty its hard to stay unmesmerized when the scenery composed of sand and ponds unfolds before your eyes.at the rnd of the day get back to Barreirinhas, try some good food to revitalize your body, we recommend you grilled fish or seafood or some of the local delecacies.
Day 2:
Today is the second day of the tour, it time to visit Lagoa Azul. before that, tour stops at the Mandacaru Lighthouse, also known as Preguicas Lighthouse, located near the river of mandacaru. From the top of the lighthouse you can get beautiful 360 degrees view of the location and see, on one side, the river, and on the other, the sea.
Then, go to Lagoa Azul, which is as stunning as Lagoa Bonita. A 35-minute jeep ride takes you to this attraction. To witness this beauty we recommend you to go to the place in afternoon, so that you can enjoy the view of magical Sunset.
Day 3:
On the third day, its time to head to the city of Parnaiba, leave for the place in the morning, because the distance is, 200 km, and the trip usually takes more than 4 hours.
once you arrive, go to Porto das Barcas, one of the main tourist attractions of the city, located next to the bridge connecting the mainland to Ilha Grande de Santa Isabel. From there, some of the tours through the Delta depart but most depart from Porto dos Tatus. From narrow streets and old buildings, the location has various bars and restaurants. It’s a great place to eat, rest and roam around. Now the next destination is Praia da Pedra do Sal, on Ilha Grande de Santa Isabel, which is a river beach and one of the most pleasant attractions of the region. Its 8 km long beache and it is most frequentely visited by locals and fishermen. The water of the sea id suitable for swimming and practicing water sports, such as kitesurfing.
Day 4:
On the last day of the tour vist Lagoa do Portinho as your first destination, your second destination is Praia do Coqueiro, which is an old fishing village located in the municipality of Luis Correia, adjacent to Parnaiba. The beach is calm so you can do various water activities here like swimming, end the tour on sweet notes with great memories.
